INDOOR GOALS RECOGNIZES TEN YEARS OF GROWTH -October 27, 2007
After playing sports all of his life, Todd Griswold along with his wife Meg, opened an indoor sports arena serving as a multi-purpose venue open to all ages and skill levels. Aptly named, Indoor Goals, it has become the place to be for sports.
Indoor Goals first opened its doors as an indoor soccer facility and inline hockey arena in October, 1997. With the phenomenal growth of lacrosse, Indoor Goals, in partnership with Lacrosse Northwest, started indoor lacrosse in 2000. Doug Foster, who owns and operates Lacrosse Northwest, says, “We’ve really seen an explosion of growth in the Portland lacrosse scene over the past five years. Meg and Todd have been a true pleasure to work with – they really know how to create win-win situations for their customers and themselves. I can’t say enough about our relationship with Indoor Goals.”
The transition between sports can be done in a less than one hour. Inline, or roller hockey, is made possible at Indoor Goals by rolling up the special turf that is used for soccer and lacrosse, revealing an epoxy covered concrete floor that is a roller hockey player’s delight. “People are drawn to inline hockey for its fast, free-flowing pace,” says Todd.
Kids who play on league teams can also try out for the Indoor Goals travel team, the Titans. The Titans participate in tournaments throughout the Northwest and field teams in all divisions from 10 and under to Adult. Both of Todd and Meg’s children have played for the Titans. Their oldest child, Shannon, is now playing hockey for Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota. Their son Casey, a junior at Sunset High School, continues to play for the Titans, as well as the adult gold division at Indoor Goals. Indoor Goals has developed a community of hockey players who take part in the leagues, open play and tournaments. There will be four teams made up of players from Indoor Goals participating in the USA Hockey Inline National Tournament in Las Vegas this year.
Indoor Goals youth soccer programs have grown leaps and bounds. With four brand new classes this year, the choices for parents with young children are numerous. This full-blown youth soccer program called “Future Starz” has something for all ages. Toddlers as young as 18 months to school age kids are enjoying the soccer activities. Meg, who runs the preschool soccer classes, along with her friend Kathy Niles, says they enjoy the unpredictability that comes with the 3-5 year olds.
Ten years and thousands of games later, Todd says, “It’s been great to see thousands of sports enthusiasts, young and old, share in the experience at our facility. So to commemorate the ten years of growth, Indoor Goals is honoring the athletes and patrons this fall.” |
